L’Alfàs del Pi Joins the Southeast Route of Alicante and Opens a Path Allowing Pilgrims to Reach Santiago de Compostela Directly, with the Official Start at the Church of San José in the Plaza Mayor.
All roads indeed lead to Santiago de Compostela, but among the officially designated routes is the new path to Santiago de Compostela, now included in the “Southeast Route of Alicante.”
The initiative, led by the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago, has the support of the Town Council of L’Alfàs del Pi. One of its main promoters, as noted by Councillor Paola Segura, is resident José Ángel García González, an expert on the Camino de Santiago who has walked it more than ten times. The goal is to attract new pilgrims to pass through the municipality, among other reasons, because the 22-kilometer stretch is of remarkable beauty.
It begins with the first few meters passing through the town center, then continues near l’Albir along paths that wind through orchards, reaches the beach shore, and dives into Sierra Helada Natural Park, finally leading to Finestrat Cove.
José Ángel García expressed gratitude for the Council’s willingness to collaborate in this journey along the Camino, describing it as “an indescribable experience, a feeling difficult to understand for those who haven’t lived it.” It’s an addictive experience, as José Ángel is preparing for his twelfth pilgrimage to Santiago this May.
The Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago will soon present the new route through L’Alfàs, organizing a walk date that is yet to be determined, but it will be announced. From the L’Alfàs Town Council, Tourism Councillor Paola Segura once again praised the initiative and encouraged travelers to explore this new route.
